| KAPOWW is an organization of youths united
with the common goal of protecting the valuable environmental
resources of the southeastern Massachusetts area. Our current focus
is the Brickstone project in Sharon, Mass. The Brickstone project is
a development that is being built on the edge of Sharon bordering
Stoughton and Easton. This development will have 624 units of over
62 housing, a 150 bed nursing home, and stores and restaurants for
the complex. The water sewage treatment plant will put an estimated
116,000 gallons of water per day contaminated with unregulated
pharmaceuticals and endocrine disrupters within feet of private
drinking water wells. Pharmaceuticals are medicines that people take and will get into our water. This is because medicine is not fully absorbed by the body and comes out in your waste. Endocrine Disruptors are chemicals that can be absorbed by your body. When this happens the chemicals can block or mimic hormones and change your body's functions. Endocrine Disruptors can be found in soap, cleaning products, pesticides, and many other products. The Brickstone Development will cause damage to the environment, endanger animals and people, and cause traffic and safety issues. To learn more about this click on the links above. |
